Some of the biggest names in music and fashion hit the red carpet at London's iconic O2 Arena last night for the 2015 Brit Awards. BFFs Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss, It-girl Cara Delevingne, and budding fashion darling FKA Twigs were among the stars who dazzled in designer duds.

I am probably the antithesis of a surfer girl. I am pale, remarkably mediocre at athletics, and have an undying fear of sharks. Have you ever heard of the third piece rule? We hadn’t either until we came across a former Nordstrom employee’s interesting account of one of the store’s dress code guidelines. In order to encourage a more stylish sales staff, retail associates are supposed to wear outfits on the job comprised of three pieces, not including your shoes. Your pants and top are your first and second pieces, and your third piece is an extra outfit element such as a jacket, blazer, sweater, vest or statement accessory. The Cut reported that the third piece rule is also in effect at Banana Republic, and according to one of our editors who previously worked retail at Madewell, they encourage the practice there too.
