The One 2017 Trend You Can't Ignore

If you’re anything like us (and we know you are!), you like to be the first in your friend group to test out a new trend. Come on, we know you were the initial girl to slip into a pair of cool white ankle boots, toss on a fashion puffer, or swing the latest It bag over your shoulder. Well, as we end 2016 and kick off the new year, chances are you’re looking for the next big thing in fashion, right? To help fill us in on what’s going to be massive in the fashion world in the coming months, we chatted with Hailey Baldwin’s stylist Maeve Reilly about the one item worth investing in now. “The next thing is the long bomber,” she said. “I love it for winter when it’s actually cold.” We’re totally on board. While regular bomber jackets will still be around, an updated, longer silhouette feels fresh and different.

This Is Olivia Palermo's Favorite Item Right Now

It's already the end of December, so some congratulations are in order—you've nearly made it to the end of the holiday party season! All that's left to get through is New Year's Eve, which, of them all, is quite possibly the most fun to dress up for. If you're feeling tired of your usual party dress looks, we have something a little more playful you might want to try. Olivia Palermo's three-piece outfit formula is going to help you think outside the box.

For Lincoln Center's Fall Gala honoring Carolina Herrera, Palermo wore a sweater-and-skirt combination that would stand out at even the fanciest of parties. She wore a sparkling black sweater with a tiered organza midi skirt—both by Carolina Herrera, of course—paired with a lacy cutout pair of Givenchy boots. Très chic. Feminine midi skirts like this seem to be Palermo's favorite item of late, considering she's styled two of them on the streets recently (one of her own creation and one floaty white iteration) as well as one sheer Dior version to the Elle Style Awards. We can totally see why. With the right textures and careful attention to detail, they can be just as elegant as any gown but allow for much more creativity so you can choose what to style it with on top. We're definitely on board with this one.

This Blogger's Insta Is a Gold Mine of Modest Outfit Ideas

The fashion world can get so caught up in what's trending that we forget the reality of getting dressed, which is more complex than we give it credit for. Dressing appropriately is essentially adorning a kind of armor so you can take on any given situation—and often, what's required of your look isn't anything flashy or too trend-driven. Often, you just need to be a bit more modest.

The word often carries with it a negative connotation, like you're ashamed of something or trying to hide. But a modest outfit can actually be an incredibly stylish way to go; when people pay less attention to your clothes, they're more likely to actually notice you. We found a Los Angeles–based blogger named Rachelle Yadegar who is an absolute master at making the modest look stylish, so take notes and get inspired.
