How to Revamp Your Wardrobe Without Spending a Single Dollar

A few weeks ago, I found myself sitting on the floor in front of my closet with a pile of clothes at my feet. I had pulled out piece after piece trying to put an outfit together for work, only to toss aside everything I tried on in frustration. I had reached a saturation point with my wardrobe; I was guilty of overwearing my favorite pieces, and I wasn't feeling inspired by, well, anything. If you too have found yourself exasperated and uninspired, you know that even with a closet full of clothes to wear, some days you just don't like anything.

Luckily, that evening a friend was stopping by for wine (read: rosĂ©), and as I explained my frustration, she listened, patiently sitting and sipping until jumping up and volunteering to look through what I had. After 20 minutes of rummaging through my stuff, she managed to rearrange my closet completely, pulling out dresses I had pushed into the corners and left to get dusty. Watching her do an edit of my closet—a friend refresh, as I'm calling it—was exactly what I needed.

Want to know more? Read on to learn about how to try this trick yourself, and then shop for affordable pieces in case you want to style them with what you already own!

The Resort 2017 Collections With the Best Outfit Ideas

As deep as our love for runway collections goes, when it comes to real-life application, it can get a tad tricky pulling off items styled on catwalk models. Sheer gowns and sky-high heels aren’t exactly wearable in day-to-day life. That’s why when pre-fall and resort shows roll around, we’re eager to check out not only the new assortment of clothes for these in-between seasons, but also the way they’re styled. And though the Resort 17 pieces won’t be available to buy until later this year (usually around November), we can still embrace the spirit of the collections by testing out new outfit combinations inspired by them. You Won't Believe How Many Sneakers Kylie Jenner Owns

One look at Kylie Jenner's outfit repertoire and it's clear she has the athleisure trend down to a T. She has a particularly enviable sneaker wardrobe, and now thanks to a new interview with Vogue, we have some insight into her collection.

For starters, she told Vogue that she owns at least 50 pairs of sneakers. “I might have a problem!” she said. She also revealed her rules for which outfits to pair with high-tops versus low-tops: “I like high-tops with leggings or out at night with a sexy dress,” Jenner told Vogue. “With shorts or skirts, [I wear] low-tops so my legs look longer.” Easy enough to follow, right? Here's to hoping our sneaker collection is as amazing as hers someday.

This Outfit Confirms It: Kaia Gerber Is a Rising Street Style Star

She may be in high school, but Kaia Gerber already has serious style. The 14-year-old model is defining her fashion-forward taste just months after hiring Monica Rose as her stylist. Gerber stepped out in high-waisted black skinny jeans, a simple tee that was tied at the front, and a bandana a choker. Her all-black ensemble was balanced with a pair of bright white high-top sneakers. Separately, each of the pieces in this off-duty look is considered understated, but the way each item was styled gave Gerber's overall look a bit of an edge. What NOT to Wear on the Fourth of July

T minus four days until one of the glorious holidays of the year: the Fourth of July. If you're looking for a festive—yet totally non-cheesy—way to flaunt red, white, and blue, you've come to the right place. We tapped J.Crew's head stylist, Gayle Spannaus, to steer us in the right direction.

Spannaus has a few helpful hints on what to avoid if you want to take the sophisticated route for the holiday. "Pick a lane: Choose stripes or stars, but don't wear both," she told Who What Wear. "Instead, I would add stripes to your whites for a little bit of pattern mixing. Or show your independence by mixing florals and stripes—it's a summery update to the traditional stars and stripes. But always remember to keep within the same tone and play with your scale."

As for shoes, Spannaus revealed the ultimate no-no: "Don't wear a spiky heel to a lawn party," she told us. "Instead, wear a flat, strappy sandal. Find one that is dual duty, that can be dressed up or down depending on your plans."

Lastly, Spannaus has some pointers for your finishing touches. "Don't forget your three S's: It's always important to bring sunscreen, a nice pair of shades, and a straw bag to complete any Fourth of July outfit." Amen to that.

Now you know what not to wear, scroll down to shop the J.Crew expert's Fourth of July picks!

Olivia Palermo Wore the Zara Outfit NYC Girls Love

Like the rest of us, Olivia Palermo has a thing for Zara. The style star can just as easily pull together a winning look from the fashion brand as she can from the industry's top designers. Last night, she attended a function in NYC dressed in the Zara suit set that every New York girl is obsessed with; blogger Danielle Bernstein has put her own spin on the exact same look too.

For Olivia, simple accessories and a pair of black peep-toe pumps let the suit stand as the center of attention, a styling move you could easily pull off too. And just to top things off with a little good news, the suit set is currently on sale, so now there's a little extra incentive to give Olivia's outfit a try.

Screw Sneakers, Blake Lively Thinks These Heels Are Relaxing

Many of us prefer to relax in a comfy pair of sneakers in our day-to-day life. Blake Lively? Not so much. As People pointed out from an interview Blake did with Hamptons Magazine, Blake described her style like this: “My style is very much a reflection of my experiences and my moods, who I am and where I’ve traveled … So my design aesthetic, whether it’s in my home or on my body, is very much an unfolding of my experiences and my stories. And that can be incredibly casual—it can be jeans and a T-shirt—but it’s my dad’s T-shirt maybe. It’s stuff that normally means something to me. And it’s also very personal and relaxed. I also like to dress up, though; I also think that’s relaxing—to put on a great pair of Louboutins.” Hey, we totally get it—tossing on a gorgeous pair of shoes totally makes us feel great too.

Will Every Runway Show Be Unisex in the Future?

For the last few years, brands have increasingly put on runway shows featuring both men and women, a trend which really ramped up in early 2015, amidst a larger societal reckoning with both the transgender and agender communities. Now, with the Spring 2017 menswear shows rolling out in full force, the phenomenon seems more common than ever, begging the question of whether or not it’s here to stay.

Part of this trend stems from the mainstream market’s growing interest in unisex dressing, which had early pioneers in designers like Rick Owens, Hedi Slimane, Rei Kawakubo and Ann Demeulemeester. Now newer designers like Shayne Oliver of Hood by Air and Rio Uribe of Gypsy Sport are following in their footsteps, sending out collections that don’t bow to strict gender ideals. “A show is about a mood and an archetype,” Oliver has explained to WWD. “It’s about something that doesn’t necessarily have to sit on a rack in general for men or women.”

But genders are coming together on the runways of more-established luxury brands, too, including Gucci, Givenchy, Prada and Giorgio Armani (to name a few). In the first case, it’s designer Alessandro Michele who has been a major proponent of blurring gender lines, often putting male and female models in similar pieces, like delicate pussy-bow blouses and colorful suiting.

The 3 Best Bras Ever, According to Real Women

The hunt for the perfect bra seems like a never-ending battle that women around the world struggle with on a daily basis. Where should you turn for advice on the best lingerie, and who should you trust?

When we spent some time trying to solve this problem, we had an epiphany. Instead of turning to salespeople or enticing advertisements, why not turn to real women? After all, they're the ones actually wearing and living their lives in these bras, and to our surprise, they had a lot to say about their life-changing undergarments of choice.

As we sifted through countless reader reviews on multiple retailer's sites, there were three bras that women could not quit raving about. To give you a better idea of what we mean, these bras had between 300–600 customer reviews, each receiving a five-star ranking. In other words, the odds were definitely in their favor.

Each of these bras definitely had a few standout qualities in common, prompting us to reach out to Allison Beale, marketing and brand director of Journelle, to see what she has noticed that goes into the company's best-selling bras.

"There are so many components that go into making a truly great bra," Beale told us, "from the technical design and construction to the style and how it makes a woman 'feel.' And we can't underestimate the importance of quality materials—lace, silk, stretch mesh, hardware, etc."

Let's take a look at what real women have to say about their favorite bras and find out what they are agreeing on overall when it comes to "the best bra ever."

What One Supermodel Wears in New York—but Wouldn't Dare Wear in Paris

Does your style change based on what city you’re in? For veteran model Anja Rubik, the difference between her New York looks and her Paris outfits is night and day.

In a new interview with The Edit, Rubik explains the contrast between the two cities. “[On weekends] I’m usually completely disheveled,” she told the site. “I have a dog in New York so very often you’ll see me out walking in my pajamas with just a trench coat tied over them and flip flops. But that’s the beauty of New York: no one really cares how you look. I wouldn’t dare do that in Paris—once I land there I feel obliged to look chic and cool all the time; I’m always dressed up.”

Given Paris’s reputation as the fashion capital of the world, it makes sense that she wants to look more polished—but it also doesn’t hurt that the supermodel happens to look amazing even when she’s dressed casually in New York.

Her movies have raked in an impressive $3.3 billion during her entire career. She lands on the overall list at #10, with Harrison Ford, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, and other male actors edging her out for the top spots.

Johansson's largest paycheck came from The Avengers, but her other roles in Captain AmericaLost in Translation, Her, and The Jungle Book, to name a few, certainly helped as well. A Major Brand Just Predicted Fall's Big Denim Trends

Given the fact that Alexa Chung’s past collaboration with AG was one of our all-time favorite celebrity fashion pairings (we wanted every single piece), we’re thrilled to see Chung back with the designer denim brand, but in a different capacity. Beginning with the F/W 16 season, the quintessential cool girl is the new face of AG. The campaign images debuted today, and fall can’t get here soon enough.

Of the collection AG shared, “Building upon the vintage movement from the spring, AG’s F/W 16 collection is a nod to the ’60s. Throwback silhouettes and utilitarian workwear are refined with contemporary updates to elevate the denim offering and overall aesthetic. Trending this season are dark lacquer washes, contrast stitching accents, retro hardware details, and higher-rise fits, as seen on Alexa Chung throughout the campaign.”

There you have it, folks! Given AG’s track record for setting trends (it was one of the first brands to embrace the ’70s), we consider this information quite telling. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's New Skinny Jeans Feel So Right Now

While some may consider skinny jeans "over," they're really anything but. We think of them as classics at this point, and nobody seems to understand this more than Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The fashion A-lister consistently steps out in a variety of skinnies. Most recently? While at the Revolve Social Club in Los Angeles, Rosie wore a pair of Isabel Marant Étoile jeans (now sold out). What we love about this specific style is how fresh they feel—they're more cropped than an average pair of cropped skinny jeans and have a very slight flare (so flattering!).

The Most Popular Fashion Sneaker Just Got a Crazy Makeover

There's a new Stan Smith in town, and it's already selling out. Adidas just released its latest iteration of the wildly popular sneaker style, and for any '90s kid who was hopelessly devoted to their hypercolor T-shirt, this one's for you.

So what makes this style so special? The white leather on the upper part of the sneaker is glossed over with a special UV-sensitive coating, meaning it changes color in the sun. (The photos on Adidas's website display the shoe in a pretty mint green hue.) Watching anything change colors in the sun never gets old, let alone the fashion world's favorite sneaker.

The Undiscovered T-Shirt Brand That's Bound to Blow Up

Thanks to platforms like Instagram and Etsy, we’ve discovered countless brands from across the world that we may have never known otherwise. One recent find comes courtesy of a late-night scroll on the former, which led us to an even later-night shopping spree on the latter.

It was the account of Congo Studio (an artwork and paper goods shop based in Barcelona) that caught our attention with its moody pictures of girls wearing the coolest T-shirts. Given how much we’ve been craving message tees lately, these are right up our alley—each one embroidered in the right-hand corner with a word or two inspired by some of America’s greatest authors and directors. Referencing everyone from David Lynch to Anne Sexton, founder Laia Blesa wanted to focus on “artists who dare us to dream and take us in search of that inner self.” We love fashion with a deeper meaning, so consider us very much sold.

A Successful Designer Shares the Biggest Mistake New Employees Make

In honor of Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power’s new book, The Career Code: Must-Know Rules for a Strategic, Stylish, and Self-Made Career ($12), we’re running an interview series featuring 17 questions (in honor of the book’s 17 chapters) about the work lives of the most inspirational female leaders in the fashion industry. So far, we’ve tapped Lauren Conrad, Sally Singer, Candice Lake, and more. Up next? Jenni Kayne.

Jenni Kayne epitomizes the essence of a stylish modern woman. The California-based designer and mother of two was one of the first to pinpoint and blend the close connection between fashion and lifestyle inspiration. This vision ultimately (and organically) expanded her clothing line into a covetable brand. Her timeless designs aesthetically align across fashion, accessories, and home dĂ©cor, illustrating Kayne's passion for clean and classic detail. In addition to running a successful brand, Kayne founded the blog Rip&Tan, where she shares personal stories and traditions like modern entertaining, travel, and food.

Keep reading to learn more about Kayne and to see how she answered our most burning career questions.

Kate Moss Wore This Top 3 Times in the Last Week

Kate Moss's signature brand of supermodel style might seem unattainable to some people, but she's more relatable than you might think. Case in point: When she finds something she loves, she wears it to pieces.

It's easy to understand the reasoning behind her latest closet obsession: she designed it herself! Moss has been spotted wearing the Equipment Kate Moss Signature Blouse ($298) three times in the last week, pairing it with pointy toe pumps, cowboy boots, and high-heeled sandals. We have no doubt it will be on heavy rotation in your own wardrobe too.
