You'll Soon Be Seeing This Iconic Designer on U.S. Postage Stamps

In case you needed one more reason to look forward to the New Year, in 2017 you'll be able to send and receive mail with a stamp adorned in the iconic works of Oscar de la Renta. The United States Postal Service announced Wednesday that it will be celebrating the late designer, who passed away in 2014, by featuring him and his designs in a special edition pane of stamps, a part of its new series celebrating the people and cultural milestones that shape America's history.

De la Renta's career cemented him as one of America's most iconic fashion designers. He became especially embedded in the nation's historical fabric by becoming a favorite of first ladies Nancy Reagan, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Laura Bush, and was worn most recently by First Lady Michelle Obama. The 11 stamps feature close-ups of his signature designs—tightly cropped shots of voluminous taffeta and ornate florals in a bold array of bursting color. In addition to the detailed shots of his designs, the set includes a photographed portrait of Oscar de la Renta shot by Inez and Vinoodh.

It's not often that we witness fashion designers celebrated on such a platform, and its a beautiful homage to his artistry and work. And as we begin the New Year with thoughts of resolutions, there's never been a better excuse to take a break from technology to pen a handwritten letter.

Head to the comments to let us know what you think of the collection.
