A few months back, the news was teased that Dries Van Noten, one of the most mysterious designers of our time, would be getting the full Hollywood treatment—aka he was having a documentary created in his honor. It takes a closer look at the Belgian visionary’s often very private life and work that been producing some of the most cult-obsessed collections of the 21st Century. And in case you have yet to see it in full, there’s one trigger word we recommend audiences try to steer clear of.
“The word, ‘fashion’, I don’t like. Because fashion means something that is old after six months,” Dries says in the trailer of the film, also called Dries. “I would like to find a word which is more timeless.” For the designer who launched his collection in ’86, and just celebrated his 100 runway show in Paris this past March, having a long-standing influence in style is a bit more appealing than the fast-fashion culture that’s the norm right now. Trends—and fame, for that matter—are often fleeting after all.
Scroll down to take a look at the film fashion fans (and perhaps non-"fashion" fans) have been waiting for. And keep an eye out for when the doc comes stateside.
