As a Paris-based fashion designer who spends time in L.A., Olivier Rousteing is the perfect person to ask about the difference in style between the two cities. We recently caught up with the designer at his new Los Angeles store, where we asked him if there is a specific trend L.A. girls wear that Parisian girls don't. He had one thing in mind: embroidery.
"What I love about L.A. girls is that they're not scared of wearing too much glamour," Rousteing told us. "In Paris, sometimes being glamorous is seen as being too much, whereas in L.A. there is no limit. So maybe L.A. girls would wear embroidered jackets or craftsmanship pieces without being scared, where in Paris they might feel too shy."
He also elaborated on how West Coasters approach fashion differently than French women in general. "L.A. girls dare way more; they are not afraid," he told us. "What I love about L.A. is the spirit of freedom, which I think in Paris sometimes you don't have because you're too scared of the judgment on the street."
