J.Crew has just done its employees (and the workforce in general) a huge favor. As Refinery29 reports, the company has banned on-call shifts, which required employees to be available to work certain shifts—without guaranteeing they'd be paid if they didn't end up being needed at the store. Refinery29 says that other companies have also ended the unfair practice recently, including Victoria's Secret, Urban Outfitters, and Gap Inc., which owns Banana Republic, Old Navy, and three other brands.
