I'm 5'10" and I'll Never Wear Flats

Much has been said about the debate between heels and flats. Right now, the scales seem to be tipped in favor of the latter. For instance, Victoria Beckham—who once famously quipped that she can't concentrate in flats—has ditched her signature vertiginous shoes in favor of sneakers and even flip-flops. “I just can’t do heels anymore,” told The Telegraph earlier this year.

Of course, you don't have to take her word for it—there is even cold, hard data to prove that heels are losing steam. According to a study conducted by Lyst, which factored in searches and sales from over 12,000 retailers, the number one trend of 2016 was Puma sneakers. Plus, a recent British study revealed that, for the first time ever, more UK women are buying sneakers than high-heeled shoes.

However, that's not to say that no one is carrying the torch for pumps. Chrissy Teigen, for one, has said that she hates flats and is "very relaxed in a six-inch heel." Now we're talking. With that quote, I know for a fact that Teigen is a girl after my own heart. Despite the growing pro-athleisure, anti-heels trend, I happen to be firmly in favor of a lofty pair of shoes (or, hey, even just a two-inch lift).

Practically speaking, I probably should join the flats movement. After all, I'm 5'10" and definitely don't need any extra height—and could probably do without the awkwardness of being two heads higher than everyone in any given group. But, for better or for worse, I plan on staying loyal to heels.
