Emma Watson's Stylist Told Us the Easiest Tips for an Eco-Conscious Closet

Not that we should need a holiday to get us to think about eco-conscious dressing, but thanks to Earth Day, we have sustainability on the mind right now. To help guide us towards a more responsible closet, we tapped Emma Watson's stylist, Sarah Slutsky, for pointers. You probably already know that Watson is dedicated to eco-conscious fashion, but you might not have known that Slutsky has been helping facilitate the actress's sustainable and ethical wardrobe, making her the perfect expert to turn to.

The idea of completely revamping your wardrobe is definitely overwhelming, but Slutsky insists there's a very easy place to start if you want to be more eco-conscious. "I think the first step is just buying less," Slutsky told Who What Wear. "Admire it, think about it, and really consider whether it truly fills a void in your wardrobe." Simple enough, right?

Slutsky also recommends asking yourself two questions when you're considering a purchase: Is the material a renewable resource? Is my purchase doing good? "Incorporating artisan craft into your closet presents the opportunity to support women in emerging economies," Slutsky told us. "Nest is a non-profit organization I’ve come to rely on as a resource. They work to connect designers and brands like Behno, Mara Hoffman, and Maiyet with global artisans and to support artisans these brands are working with."

Lastly, there are still things to consider even after you've settled on a purchase. "Mind your dry cleaner— only dry clean when absolutely necessary and go organic," Slutsky said. "Spot clean as much as possible. Freeze clean! Hang dry! Check that your laundry detergent is chemical-free. For me, committing to care for the things I own has truly made me a happier, healthier human." Amen to that.
