Flip-flops? At fashion week? On the runway? That's right—today at the Michael Kors spring 2018 show, we saw models flood the runway wearing a minimalistic assortment of, well, flip-flops. The initial pairing of pastel dresses, palm-print blazers, and tie-dye sweaters with the polarizing sandal style was one thing, but seeing Kendall Jenner step out wearing a black sequin evening dress with flip-flops was another.
The vibe of the Michael Kors spring collection made us crave a warm-weather vacation, elevated office attire, and an elegant cocktail party all at once, each of which we can apparently pair with fashion's faux pas, the flip-flop. Kendall's look, however, made us ponder the shoe style in a way we had yet to before. Could flip-flops be flat slides 2.0? Are they chic enough to wear beyond the confines of a sandy beach or slippery pool deck? Michael Kors (and Kendall Jenner) says yes.
